Innovation, Ignite, Ideas, Inspiration & IBM at Tech4Africa

We’re delighted to bring IBM into Tech4Africa as an official sponsor and partner on the Global Entrepreneurship Programme (GEP).

GEP aims to help entrepreneurs build their business by providing support and resources (software, people, promotion) as an extension of your business. The programme is open to companies less than five years old that are beyond the concept stage.

As Tech4Africa’s “Innovation Partner” IBM’s Tom Rosamilia, vice president of Corporate Strategy and general manager of Enterprise Initiatives at IBM, will be speaking at Tech4Africa on Thursday November 1st. Tom is responsible for the strategic direction of IBM’s future, but his past experience covers a number of areas, including power systems, Websphere, data management, software development and IBM Silicon Valley Laboratory.

Claudia Fan Munce, Managing Director at IBM Venture Capital Group, will speak about global trends in the technology start-up environment, introduce some GEP participants, while we will also be announcing an award as part of the Tech4Africa / IBM partnership.

Does your solution address issues enterprise customers are facing in the Smarter Planet industries? To sign up for GEP please go to www.ibm.com/isv/startup.

As another boost to the entrepreneurial spirit within the technology community in Africa, we are proud to be returning with IGNITE, a capacity-building initiative for start-ups.

Ignite will be running as a half-day session at Tech4Africa on Wednesday, October 31 st, where twenty start-ups will be able to quiz and question experts form the VC community, including AngelHub and Invenfin, as well as mentors and members of IBM’s GEP team.

The interactive workshop, a two-way discussion and Q&A forum, will lead to a pitch-out, where the five finalists will be asked to present on stage at the Tech4Africa conference on Thursday. Brett Commaille, CEO of AngelHub, will convene a panel of judges to choose a winner, announced live to our audience.

To apply for Ignite, please start over here.

We encourage you to sign up for both GEP and Ignite - even more chance of getting a place at Tech4Africa! For those who want to come and see the results of our entrepreneurial initiatives, please register for Tech4Africa.
