We’ve set aside the first day of Tech4Africa on Wednesday, October 31, to get the best developer minds together to teach, learn, share, hack and make an impact through technology. The full day of speakers and panelists follows on Thursday, November 1, with a stellar line-up and packed agenda.

Agile All Access

Neal Ford, director and meme wrangler at ThoughtWorks leads a full one-day session on Agile and continuous delivery. ThoughtWorks developers and engineers will be on hand go take you through demonstrations, pair programming, continuous integration, test-driven development, problem-solving, illustration of real projects, facilitation

Firestarter

Ignite returns with a workshop of open discussion and pitch coaching for qualifying start-ups and top mentors including the head of IBM Venture Capital & international mentors, AngelHub, Invenfin, Deloitte Digital. Five finalists will then get to pitch in front of the Tech4Africa audience at the conference the next day, with the chance to win a prize of R25k, sponsored by Deloitte. If your startup (revenue of less than R2m for the last 12 months) is Scalable, Investable and offers a Solution to an African Problem, enter now!

Ready, Set, Hack

We're in the process of finalising an Email Marketing Masterclass & iOS Developer Workshop so will announce that as soon as possible.

A window on to Windows 8

CTU Training, in partnership with Microsoft will take you through the developer opportunities available in Windows 8. You will learn how to build applications that leverage all the best new features of Windows 8, such as share and search charms, as well as how to design your application to have the right look and feel. Finally CTU will take you through how to publish your app to the Store and make money!

Get the social party started

DMMA is bringing a mass of expertise and experience from across its membership to Tech4Africa. Guided by Justin Spratt, MD of Quirk, the different sessions will walk the audience through the digital "value chain", including digital strategy, creative, UX, SEO, software design & development, User Interface design, media strategy & buying, ad sales and system administration, stopping briefly at each "station" in the journey to understand what each role player adds to the final digital product.

‘Money, money, money’

InMobi will look at best practice for monetisation of Apps through different stages of the App's lifecycle. In addition InMobi will present the results of research conducted in South Africa on consumer preferences for Apps and Mobisites, giving developers insight into potential revenue streams.

Mxit up

This workshop will look at the app ecosystem, what is currently happening on Mxit and what developers can look forward to in the future. Andy Volk and Gavin Marshall will be focusing on the new Mxit APIs, but also give guidelines on engaging users and monetising one’s app. They will also explain why one should be building for Mxit, how to get started, tips and tricks for successful apps and the future of social gaming.

We’ll have beers and pizza to follow, as well as time and space to hack away after the workshops and sessions above.
