Friday Challenge: Sponsor a student at Tech4Africa, help us grow the next generation of leaders

We wanted to set a real challenge to everyone in the tech ecosystem:

To get 100 students to Tech4Africa this year, sponsored by the companies who will be hiring them in 3 to 5 years.

Student tickets are priced at the Early Bird rate of R1,200 (ex VAT).

Tech4Africa was founded to give greater access to global expertise and leadership in technology to Africans, as well as giving tech in Africa a bigger platform to showcase success. From October 31 – November 1 the Indaba Hotel will be overflowing with ideas and innovation, international, pan-African and local industry leaders.

The audience represents the entire tech ecosystem – start-ups and entrepreneurs to multi-nationals and investors, developers and software engineers to social media marketers, journalists and bloggers to new business development teams.

We’re keen to ensure that the next generation gets access to the same – to share their ideas, connect to others in the industry, learn from the best, get inspired to use tech to solve problems.

Last year a teacher in Linden brought a small group of grade 11 IT learners to Tech4Africa:
The learners were exposed to real-world, up-to-date and tech savvy African and international entrepreneurs and leaders. Tech4Africa conveyed in one day, that which takes me years to convey to my learners. Merely watching the news, reading newspapers or surfing the web, in no way exposes the learners to the opportunities they have or the part they can play in making our continent and country better. Tech4Africa showed my learners what part they can play and the responsibilities they have to make a difference. It is a year later and the learners are still talking about the mind shift that occurred in them during the conference.

African Leadership Academy student, Anthony Wamunyu Maina, who come to Tech4Africa last year, expresses what there is to gain for a young person at the start of their career path:
The Tech4Africa conference was a very enlightening event, especially for someone who has a passion for IT such as myself. Through this experience I was able to learn just how far this continent has developed and which are the areas that have lots of potential. Another key point is that I was able to meet and stay in contact, up to today, with people making great strides in the IT industry. This is crucial when it comes to networking. For that I am grateful and I look forward to numerous similar events in the future.

We’d love to see you at Tech4Africa, October 31 – November 1. We’d also love to see more students there, helping inspire a new generation who can drive the future of tech in Africa.

For companies wishing to sponsor a group of students, please contact zinnia@tech4africa.com.
