Wanted: The best (mobile) developers in South Africa

Win R35k at our DevDays!

Since we've started, we've made it a priority to listen to the tech community at large so that we could get better and better. Overwhelmingly, you asked for more developer days, deeper content, and more focus on African tech.

Well, after a lot of work and preparation for 2013, we're proud to start kicking things off!

Deloitte Digital South Africa and Tech4Africa, in association with Nedbank, will be hosting two Developer Days ‘DevDays’ in Johannesburg and Cape Town on July 19 and July 26 respectively aimed at enabling the best developers in the country to solve a unique and complex business challenge within 24 hours. This initiative will manifest in a challenge that will see the winning contender walking away with R35,000 in cash compliments of Nedbank.

IBM has kindly offered to provide free education on their Worklight platform (Worklight supports all mobile platforms from one code base - you can learn more here in advance, or of course attend workshops on the day).

More info

Developers can expect the problem set to include tech which requires a mobile frontend using HTML5, Android app and/or feature phone; a web based backend with a web datastore; and messaging API’s which do push & pull requests.

A group participation structure will be followed to encourage networking between the contenders. Groups will vary in size from a minimum of two to a maximum of five developers.

Co-sponsors that include IBM, Thoughtworks and Google will conduct workshops and other activities during the DevDays to provide participants with the tools that will assist them in deploying their solutions.

Tickets

Entry is R250 per developer. This includes snacks, drinks, and meals. Attendees will also get a R250 discount on their Tech4Africa conference registration later in the year. WiFi connectivity, programming space, case studies, demo facilities, a chill zone, and Raspberry Pis will be provided. Developers just need to bring their notebooks and problem-solving creativity.
